The countryside of lower Sulcis is marked by the presence of countless and particular rural settlements of ancient origin, the so-called "furriadroxius" (having a farming purpose) and "medaus" (having a pastoral one). Following a progressive abandonment of lands occurred during the Middle Ages, these small settlements rose along with a repopulation process started by shepherds in the 18th century. In the territory of Villaperuccio, the remarkable "furriadroxiu" of "Is Grazias" has got a characteristic small church and various rural structures. In the territory of Santadi, counting over thirty "furriadoxius""Is Carillus" (one of them) can be visited along the road connecting Santadi to Teulada. Also, in the inhabited centre of Santadi, the Museum Sa Domu Antiga is a typical farming house of Sulcis, containing a rich ethnographic repertoire, aimed at recreating the interiors of agro-pastoral houses at the beginning of last century.
Last but not least, an intense and appetizing food-and-wine itinerary may start in Villaperuccio and Santadi, offering their tasty ovine cheeses and well-known local wines, including the renowned Carignano del Sulcis.
In Teulada, set in a territory of astonishing, wild beauty, local products such as sausages, cheese and wine in particular, deserve to be tasted, as the famous artichokes of Masainas, making the object of a specific fair in March.
Giba makes a delicious bread in many specialties: "civraxiu", bread with olives, with cheese, with ricotta and with "gerdas" (bits of cooked lard).
