Naturalistic/environmental

The variety of ecosystems characterizing the territory, woodlands diversity and the changes in altitude – ranging from zero to over a thousand metres – as well as the presence of crevices, crags, clearings, prairies, streams, ponds, woods and farmed areas, make the region of lower Sulcis particularly remarkable from an environmental and naturalistic point of view. A route among natural monuments not to be missed starts from the caves of ‘Is Zuddas’ in Santadi, containing an amazing underground scenery created by the incessant action of water, originated about 600 million years ago.

Even some century-old trees can be admired in the state forest of Pantaleo, extending between Santadi and Nuxis.

Right in Nuxis, the most pleasant springs of Monte Nieddu are fed by water pooling inside large inner cavities, dug by karst phenomena in the limestone rock of the mount.

Going southwards, within the territory of Teulada, ‘Punta Sebera’ offers a spectacular, panoramic standpoint looking out over the whole area.

Between Teulada and Sant'Anna Arresi, along the coast, a tour must include the magnificent sandy dunes of Porto Pino, twenty to forty metres high. In the territory of Giba is the beach and the pond of Porto Botte, a natural habitat to a richly diversified avifauna.

Finally, the region of the artificial lake of ‘Monte Pranu’, in Tratalias, is provided with an equipped resting area, set among the woods, whose beauty may also be enjoyed through a few naturalistic paths bordering the lake.
